The Thor engine timing is 12-14 degrees before Top Dead Centre, so there is quite a difference. I'll try everything else I can first then see if I can get a replacement sensor and try that, worst comes to worst I might then need to buy a new ignition.

Steve, The TDC of and therefore the approximate timing is predetermined by the location of the sensor on the engine
and the position of the magnet on the hub Most sensors will operate as they will only switch when told to. One exception that
I know of is the Roto ignition system sensor. The Roto ignition system is not much good anyway.
If you have another sensor and/or ignition module just try it.

Stripped everything out and reconnected, charged up ignition battery, replaced spark plug then fuelled up. it started fine and after a couple of initial hiccups it will now transition to full throttle. Tried it a few times and it seems OK but did not run it for long to avoid annoying the neighbours! Hopefully I will get to test it out this weekend, weather permitting.

Had trouble with a Zenoah 20 recently. Changed plug ,tank ,carb ignition unit ignition battery. Still had the same problem. Changed the four cell ignition battery to a 5 cell? And the problem disappeared

Did your Zenoah 20 have the Zenoah ignition unit?
They are a known power hog.
Most of us with the original ignition have changed over to RCXL
