OS 70 FS Ultimate

Postby Cary Bailey » February 16th, 2011, 9:47 am

Chaps, I've read amongst various forums that the OS 70 FS Ultimate motor was a troublesome unit as it was hard to set up & regularly went off tune for no apparent reason. Do any of you guys have any experience good & bad? I have a brand new one of these & now wondering whether to use it or sell it!
Thanks
Cary

Hi Cary, I've been flying one of these engines for the last two seasons in my F3A practice model (Kyosho Osmose 50), with absolutely no problems. My set up is APC 12"x 7" prop, OS type F glowplug and 20% Nitro fuel, either OptiFuel or CoolPower Heli, whatever you run avoid any fuel that contains castor oil as this can lead to a build up of carbon in the exhaust valve and exhaust header pipe. My engine has had close to two hundred flights and internally it looks like new, I've hardly touched the main needle since running it in and the low speed is still as set by the OS factory. The only other tip I can give is to use the OS foam tank filter (clunk) or the small JP felt clunk as this prevents air getting into the pump as a result of fuel foaming. Good luck if you decide to use it. Kind Regards, Gary.

Gary, I'd heard so much negative responses regarding this engine I was considering selling it. Thanks for your advice.
Cheers Cary
