It's our money!!!

Postby Dave Hayfield » March 2nd, 2013, 7:05 pm

Interesting item in an International Aero Weekly mag. The MOD have just bought 200 mini helecopters for the army for surveillance. They are called Black Hornets and look about the same as the cheap infra-red mini helis that have been on the market for a while now. OK they have GPS and cameras fitted with homing systems etc. but electronics nowadays is available quite cheaply. According to the article the MoD have just paid £20 million for the 200 units. That works out at £100 000 per unit!!!!!!! YES £100,000 . Do they need a reality check? Would put a photo here of a military hand holding a 4.7 inch heli but copyright will not allow me.

typical, they chop our harriers and nimrods, they build two bloody carriers we have no planes for, then they buy these things, someone is making a LOT of money off our hard earned tax pounds,

If there's that much money in it, set yourself up in business, win the contract for the bargain price of £50k per Pico Z and see how much money you're left with at the end of the contract...

Yes, there is money to be made, but the costs of just tendering for the contract will be huge.

I am sure there is more to it than it sounds, but there is a lot of money here, for not a lot of return, or am i missing something?
