Chuck Graves at http://www.vanvan.us had taken over Vince's plans, his last post was 28/08/2012 when he said he had all the Whrilwind parts ready for sale (last page on the build forum). I've mailed him via the site i'll see if he responds?

hi sean and anybody that's interested, I have had an e-mail from a guy in norway his name is Kjell I think he runs a model shop in norway called Eureka rc, he told me he can supply a laser cut kit for the whirlwind the wingspan is 108" and a length of 75" and power to be two 20 to 30cc engines, he can also supply all the glass fibre parts (12 in total) which includes nose cone/tail fairings/ engine nacelles and a sliding canopy. the cost of all this which includes a 55 page build manual are as follows.

LASER CUT KIT £400
PLANS (12 sheets) £65
FIBREGLASS PARTS (12 in total) £450
CANOPY £45

Although the kit is all slot together it does look rather complicated to build and probably beyond my skill level, but if someone on this forum would be prepared to build it for me at a reasonable price I would order a kit from Kjell, (any takers). I cant ever remember seeing an rc model of the whirlwind but at this size would make a stunning addition to a warbird at shows.

Looking on the rcscalebuilder forum build there is a lot of building involved with the model and i think it would be expensive for someone to build it for you? I'm sure you would be able to tackle it if you took your time and you could follow the build on line.

Yes, everything is available. I can ship the plans and build CD right away. Everything else has a 3-5 week lead time.

Plans: $75.00

Build CD w/instructions: $25.00

Laser Cut Kit: $480.00

Landing Gear (Century Jet): $615.00

Fiberglass Parts(lots of them): $550.00

Canopy: $65.00

Aluminum Spinners & backplate: $125.00 each.

Hi Sean thanks for your input, it would be cheaper for me to buy from Norway no import duty and no v.a.t, I have looked at having a couple of builders to do the work but they are far to expensive for me to have them build the model, but I appreciate it is there living and phil at fighter aces is booked up until at least the middle of next year. but if I could find someone to build the fuz or a wing set that would keep the price down. but I still think that this model would be awesome to see in the air.

Re:- importing from Norway, they are NOT in the EU (as per Sweden & Finland) so any imports would be subject to import duty & VAT.

My current build schedule has increased to close on 2 years following agreements over 2 new projects over the last few weeks taking the current queue up to 6 to include the 3 projects currently in progress. However, if you are happy to consider having just the wings or the fuz built up to the glassing stage, feel free to give me a buzz as I am in the process of putting things in place to increase capacity. Having followed the RCSB thread, I do agree this is a complex model and Vance seems to like the idea of using 10 parts when 2 or 3 would do.......there is no getting away from the fact it's a time consuming complex model to build.

Thanks Phil, for Your kind words

As for import duty & VAT, that can be "taken care of"..
I live only about one hours drive away from the nearest post office in Sweden, which is inside the EU.
If shipped from there, no import duty or VAT is applicable.

As for the Whirlwind, I did a test build for Vance Mosher, and it is indeed a Builders kit.
The wing is quite complex, With the huge Fowler-type flaps, radiator flaps and slats on the outer wing panels.

Add the long slender fuselage and a a very intricate T-tail, and you have a builders heaven on Earth.
