New Member Intro Thread?

Postby Andy Sephton » February 16th, 2015, 8:21 am

Just joined the Forum and looking around I can't find an intro thread for new members. So I'll post something here in the hope that if there is an intro thread, the mods will move it to there......

I'm a lifetime active aeromodeller who has tried most aeromodelling disciplines and settled eventually into Free Flight Scale, both indoors and out. However, I still dabble in other modelling areas, both RC and FF and I have interests that span the whole spectrum of the modelling world, including large models.

I'm currently a member of the BMFA Scale Technical Committee holding the posts of PRO and organiser of the Scale Indoor Nationals

That's it for the intro.

Here's a couple of comment on joining the Forum:

- I do like the fact that you insist on names and not pseudonyms, please retain that!

- I had difficulty finding the answer to the security question - I couldn't find the area suggested as a hint in the Forum list. I eventually got the answer on google.

Hi Andy and welcome to the LMA forum, we have never felt the need to have a newbie area as we seldom get anybody who is new to model flying on our forum.

I am always interested in comments and take note of what you said about the security question. But the clever little boffins that take great pleasure in destroying website and forums for their amusement, keep finding more and more ways to break down security barriers the BMFA website is testament to that. So we have to try and keep one step ahead of the little blighters. Glad you like the real names it is always nice to know who you are communicating with.

You will find this forum is nothing like all the others, as our members only responded to postings if they feel they have some input to give. This can be frustrating at times for some but please bear in mind it is not because they can't be bothered. This is also another reason why we are sometimes called elitists and don't like playing with others. But in truth you will fine members are a very helpful and friendly and will go out of their way to help genuine modellers. So if I haven't frightened you off I hope you will get what you want out of this forum.

Thanks for the response Dave.

I must say that my comment on the security question wasn't a complaint; hopefully it'll be taken as a constructive comment.

As for the rest, that's fine by me. I'll look forward to getting involved.....

Wasn't taken as one, I understand what you are saying and we can look into it. It is just sad we have to do this to stop them crashing the forum by flooding it with random names until it fills the database and crashes the forum. I suppose it is the world we live in sadly.

Soooooooooo, following receipt of a PM from Rob Buckkley, I have to eat humble pie.

I'd scrolled down as I filled in the form to register and the menu bar with the resources section in it had disappeared upwards. When I saw the question I assumed that the answer was in the forum and as you know, there is no resources section there. That's the point where I hit google and got the answer.

Apols to all concerned!

(What a way to start on a Forum!!!!)

This would be THE Andy Sephton, one time Chief Pilot at Old Warden. Seen him years ago flying AR 501 the Mark V spit, now under restoration at OW. Also mentor of my mate Peter Holloway who flew many displays with Andy. Peter of course a one time LMA member who flew his full size Magister alongside the 1/2 size in that memorable display at Cosford a few years back.
Happy days

Yes John, I remember, and I believe we met several times at Old Warden too....... However, whilst my career has taken several turns for the better in respect of full-size flying, I remain an aeromodeller at heart having been building models continuously for the last 57 years.

Hello Andy, welcome to the LMA. I remember you from when I used to organise the LMA shows at Old Warden, they were halcyon days. Sadly we had a great deal of misunderstandings from the management when a big reorganisation took place, 20 years ago, of what the LMA were trying to do for the good of the collection. I seem to remember a lot of support from you and thankyou very much for that, but we had to pull out in the end mainly because of the dreaded accountancy 'take over' of the Airfield and the impossible conditions they insisted on for us to operate there. Would love to see the LMA supporting the Airfield again. Anyway good to see you have joined our Association.
