Andy---i dont have a worry about weight,at the moment its well under what i expected---too light and it will float around like a big Kite,so i need aheavier wingloading anyway to make it fly realistic---have just managed to squeeze it onto the van for the weekend display !!!

Ha ha that made me smile Phew !! It fit on van Iethe weight I remember if correctly u were aimming around 200lbs with proskin. I guess u can add weight if needed. So those 4 jet engines .160 What is one engine equal to interns of cc etc have fun this weekend

dave, after seeing the monster in the flesh at bradford, i would like to know more about the pond sealer that you use. i liked the finish that you have achieved and would like to try it out and experiment with it. could you give me some more details of the product that you use??

Nick--it is as it says,sold in garden centre outlets for repairing fish ponds etc----you use it in place of epoxy finishing resin.Views vary on its use---i personally like it because there is no mixing,use straight out of the tin,so there is no waste.it also hardens in any damp cold conditions,no heat or warm shed required,ideal for the winter we have just had !!! it also rubs down well after a couple of hours.There are other views and some prefer using epoxy or other products similar,so its just down to personal preference really---hope this helps

on the topic of Pond sealer I used a clear water based varish rubbing down is a bugger pond sealer easy to rub down will have to try that. do u apply the pond sealer with brush onto balsa then add the glass cloth and then apply pond sealer or dry fit the cloth on and then add the sealer ??

Andy--i use just like i would epoxy----cut the cloth to size required then brush in with Sealer,after a rub down it will need at least one more coat to fill the weave

Hello Dave,
What is the name of the pond sealer you use?,would like to try it myself.I have used the floor varnish but i find that very difficult to sand to an acceptable finish.What do you use to sand it with?.

hi dave if its the same stuff john greenfiels uses its bondaglass g4 its the blue tin and about 20 quid a 1kg (1l) tin its good stuff iv only managed to use a full tin once before it went off about 9 months after opening it. iv also used it for mending pollyester fiberglass cowls with a good success rate. you can get it from most fish pond specalists online we get it at a local tropical fish specialist. iv had no trouble sanding it with cheap sandpaper or those foam sanding blocks. use cellulose thinners to clean everything down
one point iv learned is decant some into a jar it seems to go off in the tin quicker if you leave the lid off too long

Hi Paul--in short--no,once the show season started i have hardly been at home---so building time is rare,when i am in the workshop its for maintenace for the models i have flown the previous weekend,i have been collecting servos etc ready for fitting when i do get chance next,then its just a final balsa sheeting on the rest of the underside,which i imagine wont be untill late summer when things slow down on the LMA shows--DAVE

Paul--yes,no chance for Elvington or any other show this year,i am still hoping for some testing in primer before the winter sets in,giving me all winter to finish and paint ready for next season---i think i was a bit optomistic when thinking it would be at this years shows---its a big big project -------DAVE

Hi Dave. Here is a question about your current and the new 20ft vulcans. I see on the current ones your ailerons are split into three on each wings As vulcans have no flaps and use mixing for elevators and ailerons etc I notice on your new Vulcan u have split on each wing into 2 4ft Are u not adopting the same as the current one or are u having 2 on each wing ? I am interested on the this as I have plan from Ron Fraser for 5ft wingspan which I have started cutting my balsa for my local club to be ready for next year. March. But on my plan each wing use one flap for all elevator and aileron etc. Etc. So I await fir your response and maybe I can split it into two on each wing etc for safety etc

Andy--on the new one i have split as per full size--nothing to do with the mixing etc,i want to try and keep the loading down on each servo and linkage etc.The old 17ft one has been flying now for 18 years with no control surface problems,but the possible extra load on this new one made me reconsider ,plus i am splitting the radios so i can have 2 elevators and 2 ailerons on 2 receivers in each wing panel for extra safety--DAVE

Grand. Excellent thanks. I am learning alot via LMA in 12 months I suppose Internet is fab tool too for sharing Infor too especially for me as I am deaf and don't always follow what other modellers say in tips and advice etc

Vince/Stuart--i have no update or pics to put on here--its not even in the building shed at Moment due to lack of time in the show season--i am away every weekend at moment--think it will be late September before i start to crash on with it---i will update on here as soon as i have some progress.Stu,i will speak to you at Elvington about the horns--they look a little thin !! for the size of surfaces--DAVE
