Poor level of service

Postby Dave Parry » November 28th, 2011, 10:44 am

Hi all, after a great day at Cosford yesterday, and all your kind comments about the website and Journal I came home feeling quite proud of myself knowing the work I have put in this year was appreciated, once I put my feet up I got my Laptop and did my usual run though the emails, to see if I needed to respond to anyone or sort out any problems to do with the forum etc... In among the emails for the forum I found this one which total took the edge of the day.

Needless to say I was a bit annoyed when I read it knowing that I responded to everyone who emails me within 24Hrs but this person has never contacted me up until now and what a way to introduce yourself I have taken the person’s name out, but I thought I would share the email with you all to see if you have the same reaction as I did.

Email

I registered with you back in October 2011. On the 16 Oct I received an email from you saying that my account will need approval . To this date I have not received any communication from you.

Its now the 27th of November 2011. Im really appalled and disgusted by the poor level of service and lack of communication on the part of an organisation such the LMA. It does not matter how big and great your models are, If you cannot attend to such a small mater as welcoming some one to your website , The I sorry to say that All matters Big will eventually come to a CRASH. because you missed out a minor detail.

I have responded to this email in the kindest way I could without being as abrupt as this person, if I have missed him (which I am sure I have not) then I will apologise, but it is more than likely he has registered without reading the forum rules and not used his real name so the account would have automatically been deleted.

Please bear in mind that when you register the forum automatically send you a confirmation that it needs approving, it can’t read whether you have register right or wrong, that is down to me and I can get up to 100 plus a day of daft and stupid names trying to register on our forum, so it is not practical to respond to them all and why should I when the rules are there for everyone to see.

So what do you think have I overreacted or do you think he should of at least made contact to find out why his account has not been activated.

Dave, it takes all sorts to make a world, and viva la difference. However there are certain types who live in their own blinkered world and are unable to see the wood from the trees because they are too much up their own you know whats.
I know that you can't really say it so I shall. This semi-literate numpty needs to find somewhere else to throw his insults about. He obviously has not got a clue just what the LMA is all about or what a friendly bunch we are. With friends like that, who needs enemies.
Don't let him get under your skin because he is just not worth it and doesn't know enough to appreciate you like the rest of us do.

All the best Tony.

Dave,
You have my sympathy, before I relinquished the web/forum duties to you some years ago, I had the same problems with fake registrations but it was by automated PC identity robots; in the order of 200 to 300 per day. It took ages to delete them from our system.

Although the system is supposed to ensure that only humans can read the information the use of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software got round this problem.

You also may remember Dave Johnson & I fell out due to my refusal to e-mail every one of the false names to inform them that they must use a proper name; despite this action being futile.

It would seem that the person who is moaning is being plain awkward or at the least unreasonable.

Lets hope this comment may flush them out for some constructive comments.

Robin

Dave,
Its the same old story - those who moan and rant are the sort who want to take everything the hobby gives but put b***er all in.
Give them a thorough ignoring!

Dave, I run a couple of sites and you have to be thick skinned. The web allows small minded people to hide. Just think what that person might have said if had been face-to face, likely a lot different. Maybe we should invent a new phrase "web rage" for guys like him. You do a great job. Andy

A 'keyboard warrior'. Why does he want to register when he thinks its all about ' big and great models'? I would just delete that one as unreadable because of the poor spelling and grammar....

Hi All, I thank you for your comments so far, I am not upset just annoyed that someone would make such a condemning statement about an organisation that they clearly know nothing about before they even become a member.

It just goes to prove that we made the right decision when this forum was formed that you must use your real name as your username, this is not the first email I have had like this and I am sure it won’t be the last. I am angry at the shear lack of respect for people that give up hours of the free time in order to bring and maintain a valuable resource to the many members that appreciate this forum and any other forum come to that.

Please keep your comments coming I really want to know what you all think. :x

PS thanks you all for your support , I am off now to spend another couple of hours doing that other job for the members that appreciate the effort so they can enjoy a great read over Christmas.

PPS Has anybody got any ideas for Decembers website front page, I have two days to find something Help!

If you look at just the end of one arm, with 4 props....I have 3 quadcopters just like those! Maybe if I make one more I could attach them all together?

Dave, I agree with Tony, Dave as I have told you before, you do a great job mate, (and that's from an ex Editor!) don't let the idiot types get under your skin, there are a majority of us that appreciate all your hard work, I know, I have done it, so just keep on keeping the rest of us happy, as I am not a member these days, and do not get your mag (which if your web site is anything to go by, it will be good) I enjoy the web site and the interesting forum which is full of interesting reading and information, just give yourself a big pat on the back mate. (if you can now get it past your head I have just swelled  )

PS Sorry I couldn't make Gaydon due to illness to meet up with you but hope to make the next one.

best regards,
Vince.

Hi Vince, as I have said, I am annoyed not upset it would take a lot more than that to put me off we are very thick skinned up north you know you have to be it’s bl**dy cold up here, my head is still swelling from all the nice comments I got from the AGM so I feel it will be a while before I am grounded again. :D

I have keep this thread running to give you all a taste of what it is like trying to please everyone, you are always going to upset someone no matter how hard you try, I just wanted to know whether I was acting correctly in my response to the email. It is not me he is getting at, it is the LMA he is attacking because he has judged all of us as being ignorant and rude for not responding to his request to join the LMA Forum which in my mind is totally out of order. It is my responsibility not the members of the LMA to respond to him which in this case I didn’t because he didn’t register with his real name.

I will continue to defend that decision as Robin did before me, because if they can’t be bothered to read the forum rules then why should we bother to contact them when they blatantly do it wrong.

Hi Bob, I do know a few of the pen names as you call them I had one myself (Diggers) but have changed it to my real name now; I do think they have a place but not here. Here is a place where technology moves at the same pace as it members (very slowly)  as there is more silver surfers here than on any other forum, but what a wealth of knowledge we have in this community and long may it continue.

As it says at the top of this forum it is open to all, as long as you follow the forum rules, so how simple can it be. :geek:
