I don't think you are far off the mark haha!! If only i could go back to before the resin didn't set!!!

I am off for a week i just hope i can try and break its back..... no literally tho, unless i get completely hacked off with it.... haha :S

GO AND SWAP THE ORBITAL FOR A PALM SANDER, BEFORE YOU DO DAMAGE--SERIOUSLY!!!

Alan--a palm sander wouldnt touch the problems that Rob has---the orbital one will be fine to get the rough stuff down to an acceptable level so it can be finished by hand---you just have to be carefull and havee plenty of patience---Rob has plenty of thaat havnt you !!!!

thanks for the thought Alan....as Dave said the problems with the fussy does need more grunt..... i have tried belt sanders, detail sanders, perma grit, block and paper...hammer and chisel haha .... it appears the orbital sander is paying off..... the body will never be smooth and flat but i suppose it will add some character to it .....?

patience me? never! haha its just so big....i will stop moaning now and get back in the back room!

Rob if you spend a lot of time around a Lancaster as I do most days, after the initial amazement of seeing it up close and being reminded of all the heroic people and events involved, after a while you start noticing that it wasn't built for quality. Ripples and uneven panels and not exactly straight edges on surfaces are the things that give it the character. A smooth polished shiny piece of machinery built with accuracy it certainly was not. So dont worry just get on with it to stop the moaning Daves of this world.

i beg to differ, my father worked on lancs at chad, and the platts shadow works, he said it was with pride that sections of a returned damaged lanc could be stripped out, and joined onto the undamaged bit of another lanc, with no bother, and that at chad, every part made was interchangable with any other lanc made at chad, at woodford, semi skilled operatives where involved in assembly, the sub assemblies had to be good so this sort of thing could be done, sorry to go on, but my family is is/was very involed in chadderton, and woodford, they have--or had great pride, until nimrod got chopped up, of coarse

On more of a serious note, i am getting closer to painting once i have finished the cockpit, front and back turrets and tided up the nacelles....

Can someone remind me, do you paint the darker colour first? ie the black then brown followed by green? i have been told before but have forgot

Always paint the lightest colour first and then the darker one. Doing it this way will ensure the darker colour will cover over the lighter one.

Okay Alan please don’t shoot the messenger this has been posted on behalf of Den Brown due to the fact he couldn't make enough sprout juice (with it being Christmas) to keep his generator going to post it himself.

Do the three coal sacks on the mission symbols, mean its post war and been involved in the Berlin air lift I wonder?
Judging by the prop tip it's done a lot of flying.

The aircraft photographed at East Kirkby was an Australian Squadron (460 Squadron) from Binbrook July 45. The squadron was disbanded at East Kirkby Oct 45 The sacks indicate the food dropping ops in Holland and looks like a Red Cross supply drop as well. I will now remove my Anorack

Well after another full day in the back room, we now have the dummy windows and the top windows installed (cut out) slowly staring to look like a Lancaster.....

I was thinking if i only do right hand circuits do i need to detail both sides???

Side windows on a lanc???????????? Am I missing something? I know I've had a little tipple but I didn't think I was that P----d.

Tony, from reading many books and studying photos (Lancaster's modelers book) i seems that they have windows... on the dam busters 617 they were window frames but they weren't cut out.... mine also wont be cut out. Its a good thing as it gives the body some depth

Update!

I have now nearly finished the detail on the body, the body has all been riveted and front and back turrets made,

A few more weeks and she is off to the pain shop!! Fingers crossed!

I really want to get some flying in before the shows start
