Home insurance for models

Postby Simon Willey » May 19th, 2012, 8:09 am

I have a load of modeling stuff and tools added to my home contents cover (yes it dose specify it on MY policy) in case some reprobate decides to help himself or we have a fire or similar. Its all stored in the shed/ garage etc as most of us do.
I have it with Direct line , but as ever the costs are going up. Has anyone else got there modeling stuff covered ,and if so who with. I found it very difficult to get cover on it in the first place
This year the cost has gone up by £80 which seams a lot and takes the bill to £565.

Simon,

We'll soon be able to offer model & equipment insurance cover through the LMA's insurers. This will cover for all risks except flying, details will be available as soon as I get them.

Criky , Simon, £565 sounds a lot, is this contents and buildings? I just have contents as I private rent, this is about £130 a year. I have the models and things listed as extra, it's considered as a "collection" with a value of up to £10k, obviously some of you will need to make that higher. I can't remember off the top of my head the name of the company but check out Lloyds bank insurance. Anyone who banks with them you'll know they force feed it to you everytime you go in there but it is one of the best policies you can get in the UK.

All being well we should be good to go any day now. I've done the paperwork with the insurers and as soon as they confirm the LMA's FSA approval I'll put the details out. So, watch this space (or a space very close to it!).
