More Sad News

Postby DAVE JOHNSON » September 16th, 2012, 3:33 pm

I heard yesterday that long time LMA member and good friend ALF MACHIN has passed away---he has been ill for some time and was fighting his illness ,but the big C finally won.
Many will remember him for the entertainment he supplied for many many years at Rufforth---he was a fanatic on Handley Page HP42 airliners and had built several, but his 17ft one was the Friday and Saturday evening entertainment when several tried for years to get the engines to run long enough to get a test flight in.
Condolences to his Family.

Sad news indeed.
Alf was thrilled when supported by several LMA people, his HP42 finally took to the air, so much so that he went home and started building another, even bigger one!
Well done Alf, always a builder. The shed door has closed for the final time.

Did not know Alf for long but a great character and will be missed. At least I can keep my fingers now that i don,t have to try and start that model again.

Condolences about Alf, as said, what a great character and dedicated enthusiast, and I remember well the evening entertainment at Rufforth. I remember there was Dave & Andy J, Steve Holland, myself and a few other guys trying to get that HP42 off the ground, running up and down the runway with it, great fun, and the look on Alf's face when one year Dave J. got it off the ground and flew it was priceless, at least he got to see his creation fly, "God bless you Alf."
