Water Planes and Splash-ins

Postby Bob Johnstone » November 18th, 2012, 2:04 pm

A fair number of the LMA members are interested in waterplanes so I thought to find some feedback.

Should a little more be mentioned about Waterplanes and the events involving them?

What brings this up is that Loch Insh Splash-in will be 30 years old in 2013, on the 14th 15th September, we are assured that the venue will be kept clear that weelkend by the Watersports Venue owner. Loch Insh, near to Aviemore, is one of the very few waterplane events which were held then.

Some of the original participating members are still active, including some members of the LMA, and we would be delighted to see and meet them and any others who might enjoy a visit to the area.

Back in 1976 I flew a Kamco Kossack (which I still have) on Lake Windermere and Ullswater. Also with me was with Craig Martin of Hobbyworld, flying his Schneider S5! Somehow methinks that makes it 36 years ago when we were members of the British Waterplane Association (which I still have my membership card)! I also flew a "Disco" on Westport lake & Leisure Lakes that same year! Yes a flying disc with floats fitted with a K&B40!
Names that spring to mind from those days are Don Stothers of the Jabberwock fame & Dr Jeremy Shaw (he was testing the very first Laser engines)!
