It is nice to know you are all missing this venue, but the very reason it is not on this year is the lack of support, I mean, it was free and you still didn’t support it. Bradford was a good venue plenty of parking space big doors to get your models in café upstairs everything under one roof. So why are you all crying out for another one, we will never match Gaydon that has turned into a gem so there is no use comparing anything with it.

The south is now covered so to balance it we need something in the North you are saying. All our efforts have failed as it seem no matter what we do it is never good enough so what is the point.

Let’s just promote the LMA at Event City this year and see if there is still interest towards the end of the season to warrant another search. If the organisers of the Northern Model Engineering show don’t feel they have made enough money this year I feel this will be the last event here anyway so we might as well use the platform to promote our shows.

we seem to have moved off my origanal point alittle here, it doesn't matter where the seminar is located , althou on my doorstep would be nice. The seminar was for the LMA member to get together after the winter, admire other peoples projects and re-stock their modelling supplies or even buy a new model, it was run for LMA MEMBERS. The replacement seems to be more of a PR exercise to increase membership maybe? I was intending taking a couple of part built models to Bradford to show and get peoples opinion, I don't think i will take them to the trafford centre show as it will be the wrong enviroment for them, plus they are only small ( less than 12' span) so they will be dwarfed in that massive arena.

Re LMA Northern seminar
I can only agree entirely with Dave and Paul on thier last postings. On why the seminars were done in the first place in my mind was to kick start the year off, and end the years flying for LMA members.
I found Bradford not by much searching or anything, and yes Phil its 200yds off the motorway in nearly ever direction you come to it. It was the start of something that I thought would grow since the demise of the trade show at Harrogate. I have mentioned to Dave that the seminar could be made in to a full blown trade show with public pay on the gate instead of free entry and traders pay by the foot and not a donation. With help I personally would put the effort in to organising such an event and in in the procees hope to make a profit or break even for the LMA. The cost of the Richard Dunn is not excessive this day and age, but have to agree to have the hall for two full days could be expensive and therefore another venue may be the case. They venue,s are out there and people are looking for different ways to fund venues of this sort. The M62 band is ideal for the venue as is Pauls suggestion.
Or is it just a case of a few people did not like something about the venue or where it is ?. so it as to go
Thick skin and broad shoulders I await the flak. bring it on I am in the mood.

Interesting indeed....

For the main chunk of members, it seems the center is about Coventry....and the M62 is almost the northern limit!

....so a 'Midlands' event in the spring would be perfect as it'll be convenient for the majority of members. We'll never satisfy everybody.....a truly northern event seems pointless if you want a good turn out.

Having enjoyed more Haig halls , Wigans, and indeed Gaydon than I want to think about, The thing I notice the most is how we all seem to want to pack up and clear off so early in the day . . I guess distance does become important if we are only there for a couple of hours. Cant say I've witnessed the official opening at the crack of dawn - prefering to arrive about 9.00am ish . . but to see that models are being dismantled and taken home just after lunch means that travelling distance is an important factor. Having said all that, there's nothing like the shot of enthusiasm (and envy) that drives us on in our hobby that these display days give to us. I agree that these "symposium showings" are primarily for the enjoyment of us all in the association. New membership drives, whilst not to be discouraged in any way, belong at a different type of venue. I hope we will find another spring event location where we can catch up with friends etc after the long winter lay off. Its always a good timely reminder that the long warm windless days of summer are just round the corner . . well, maybe last year was a whole series of bends !! And one other thing - my favourite conversation at these shows is the discussion of how this coming year will be the hottest and best yet !

Just noticed in the latest RCMW that the entry fee to Event city is only £8 for adults and £7 for most of us OAPs not bad considering all the stuff that will be on show.

My opinion reagrding a northern event is that the M62 corridoor is the best area, and that Bradford was not given the chance to develope over time.
Looking at the map. The modellers were prepared to go west, but were the moddellers in the west prepared to go east to support the event, apart from those displaying ?
Or lets go back to somewhere near wigan ?
My choice re the Events Center ( Will not be going )

The Manchester event was never intended to be a replacment for the northern static event, but it was offered free, what would you do? it has great potential for getting bodies to the shows we run, it has the chance, with your support, of being a MAJOR PR event for the association, therefore, it deserves a good attendance, i will be there, answering the publics sometimes hilarious questions, and giving certain gifted questioners behind the barrier tours, the interest from the general public was ENORMOUS, i hope you guys support it,
As for the Bradford do, i Loved the event, but, as with Haigh hall, it was dead in the water about 1.pm, modellors come, look, and go, with the last event, turnout out by members, and the public, was low, why? nice day, they all went flying, events like this, model seminars, swapmeets, etc etc, if they get good weather, they die very quickly,

So, attend the manny event, spread the word about the LMA, and we might just have a lot of new bums on seats through the door at this years shows :D passes though, are limited, get your name down, bring a model, in any condition of build, and enjoy the event
