I need some atraction in my life

Postby Alan Cantwell 1131 » March 9th, 2013, 9:03 am

Its been suggested by Jan, at Adfa models, that i use magnets to secure the canopy on my fournier built by Jonesy from his kit, (and very pretty it is too :) )
Rare earth ones have been suggested, now, this canopy is over a foot long, does anyone know where to get these things, and are they safe? i intend to use 2 leading edge dowels, and place the magnets along the canopy rear, they have to be small, but very very powerfull, anyone any ideas where to get them, and what type? will they affect the radio?
(spekky reciever,)

part no.F330NA [NORTH]

I will check to see if I have any left.[Long shot]but you never know. Sorry Allan I have looked at my canopy but I used all ten.
I hope the above info will help you.Brian.

Allan,I actually used 16 because the Mitsubishi has two separate canopies, and there is one on each corner making 8x2 =16 because you have one magnet fixed to the removable canopy, and one fixed to the frame of opposite polarity.
In your case you will need 4,because you have dowels at the front and only require magnets at the rear. You could get away using just 2 magnets if you use a pieces of steel instead of the other two,but the holding power will not be as great.
ps.I think a pack of 10 cost about £7.

Loads to choose from on ebay, you can choose the size and thickness you want. I got a pack of these for £2.90 free p&p: Neodymium Disc Magnets 2mm dia. x 1mm thick (Pk of 50).

I use the small 2mm x 1mm ones to hold small switch & charge point hatches shut (1 in each corner of the un-hinged side, plus 2 more in a ply plate in the fuz, so 4 in total).......for a large canopy, I'd be looking at something 6-10mm diameter.

I've used four 2mm x1mm on my 1/4 scale Me109 canopy, ideal for keeping it closed. They will pull the canopy closed from about an inch away.
