I assume the timing has been set correctly as it was converted from a mag engine?

If its a rxcel ignition and the has the proper magnet disc on it the timing should be ok. The carb could need a clean out, new filters and diaphragms. Also check the fine filter in the carb and clean that too. You can get repair kits very easily. Check the needle float valve. Any parts can be got at Toni Clark in Germany. Their service is second to none. If you flick the prop over with the plug out but grounded there should be a good spark. Do you have the right plug?
You might have a cracked insulator block on the carb or leaking gasket.
Hope all that helps somehow.

Oh well, it's got to wait till the weekend now. Once I get it going I will post the solution, but I've got a feeling it going to be a combination of things. Makes you want to take up fishing sometimes!
Cheers

Don't worry, my G38 went poorly. It was a few little things that didn't make it run well. Went through everything stage by stage. Now runs superbly.....keep going.

Many thanks for all the advice.
Followed everything suggested, and BINGO! I think I was flooding it, combined with a bad starting flick. Just need the boys down the flying field to set the carb up and then its ready for its maiden flight!

Great forum for advice, thanks again
