'Inflight' / Onboard Footage Camera Question

Hi gents,

Have been watching various videos lately which give an amazing 'in-flight' aspect.

I have captured some great footage from mounting my GoPro onto my large pawnee but also have a few warbirds that I would be keen to capture some footage from,... but not willing to mount my GoPro on them either! (GoPro mounts are pretty permanent once on)

Guess i'm also looking for something as reliable but more streamlined than a GoPro maybe even 720 footage? Am I asking too much?

If any of you can give some advice of what cameras you are using please (and how you mount them cellotape, velcro etc) I would be very interested to hear your ideas

Worth pointing out there is a standard lens and wide angle lens. For onboard I prefer the latter as gives a much wider field of view as seen in my vid below. But if you buy the cam with the normal lens you can always retrofit the wide angle lens module later. Good luck - Dom

Thanks Dom. Any ideas on what these guys are using to secure the mobius?

Tape or velcro? Is there t tape is strong enough to hold the mobius down but not tear off anything with it or damage the surface when removed?

I use velcro with an elastic band back up but it is onto plastic. The mobius comes with a slide on back plate holder which might help.

Good question Ryan. The black thick velcro is best for attaching the cams. I've done it that way on my fast jets without much problem. Good thing with the Mobius, compared to GoPro, is it's low frontal area so the air turbulence is very unlikely to take it off. On a fibreglass surface it shouldn't damage anything as long as the paintwork has been done properly and there is no grease. I'd be a bit more careful on a film covered surface but still think you'd be OK.

I used velcro on one of the tiny cameras I had, but in case of it coming loose, tied a length of dental floss to it and the model. That way you will never actually lose it.
