Some Sad News

Postby Richie Robinson » August 15th, 2014, 7:55 am

I received a phone call last night to inform that me that long standing Liverpool and District Club Member Charlie Higgins has very sadly passed away following a battle with cancer.

Although not a flyer himself Charlie was very well known by many.

For many years he would assist with the running of Woodvale and various LMA shows including Cosford, Elvington and Long Horsley.
Charlie would assist Arthur Searle with gate duties and was easily identifiable as the man with the famous cowboy hat driving a Black Hackney cab.

We have lost a true character.

That is very sad news, Richie.

Charlie was a welcome face at all the events you mentioned and a real character. His dry Scouse humour was certainly appreciated by many of us. I will never forget a 'one-liner' when I was entering the pilot's compound at Woodvale where he kept 'guard'.......

Liverpool FC had suffered a rare defeat to my team, Newcastle, and smugly I asked him if he was down in the dumps about it. In his broad Scouse accent he replied 'Dun't much matter to me, Keith, I'm an Evertun fan.......!'.

He really was a smashing chap under that bluff, craggy exterior and I and all those at Longhorsley who knew him send our sincere condolences to the family.

Charlie in his favoured cowboy hat alongside Arthur Searle (Longhorsley 2004). No doubt they're presently renewing acquaintances......
