Just got me a 25% Patty Wagstff Extra. I know some would install a 50cc but would a Zenoah 26 fly it? I have a spare 26, it will save buying another engine. I neeeed to know.
Not intersted in screeming vertical, just nice slow manoeuvres.

Always found models of this type need ample power underpowering can cause dangerous situations. Would have thought a 50cc was a better bet. Not likely to be haring around too much with this sort of power, can always be throttled back.

Rubbish Barry. Its only 80", same as a Gee Bee and even lighter. If you are not interested in 3d manouvres, then the 26 will be fine, may not have unlimited vertical, but will fly in a very scale manner! The 26 is nearly as powerful as a 38, and much lighter! Just keep the batteries up front to avoid adding ballast and it will be super light and very manouverable. I had one of the original Glens' Models Sukhoi, twice as heavy as the Extra you are talking about, and it flew great on a clapped-out ST 3000. Overpowering models is a trend reaching us from the USA, and of course from the 3d prop hangers. (buy a helicopter!) I once saw a Regal Eagle which we used to fly on ST 2000-3000s fitted with a Z45- it was bloody dangerous, and did not last long! (opens can of worms)

Might just add to save me from sounding like a complete idiot which obviously I did. I had a Roto 25 in mine and grass take offs were hairy. Replaced it with a Thore 45 which is not the most powerful ,I know , but it certainly flies better on it

Thanks Denis, you are not alone with the 50 cc size. Steve mallinder suggested a DA 50 for it.
I did think of the THOR. We will try various, starting with a Z26 which I have.

Hi,

I used to have one of these witha Fuji 50 (46cc).

It still took a fair bit of nose weight to make it balance, despite everything being shoved right up the nose.

It wasnt overpowered with the 50 - I seriously doubt the 26 would do the job.

Steve Mallinder saw this fly at Fradley BTW.
