Makay 75

Postby Ken Bones » September 24th, 2009, 9:38 pm

Hi all, after over six years i have decided to get the Curtis Schneider racer out the loft and finish the thing, the floats are almost there and tonight i had the model sitting in the garden in all its glory.
The motor that is fitted is a Makay 75cc and from when it was fitted up until recently i have not really been hearing to many good reports.
Any body out there got any feed back about this engine? Good or Bad please.

Gregg, not to sure where i am going with this one yet. When we all origanally got together to form the team of six airplanes WE were all eager.
It would have been a grat slot for the shows etc, so it may go up for sale when its finished and test flown.
Stu, i will see what i can do. I hope to have the floats in paint by mid nxt week, and that would make for a much better piccy!

Where you getting the floats from Ken?

As you know my Macchi was about 75% built but i stopped when the floats were not available any more

Perhaps I'll see what it would take to finish it off

HI Greg, i built the floats from good ol Balsa, after all, they are just spats really! The wheels are attached to the main U/C struts, so the floats dont have to be a structual part of the build.

I'll dig mine out and take a pic of it and see if I can get the enthusiasm going again. Or, maybe someone else will??

For Alan Cantwell.

If youre interested Alan, ive got a full pre-cut kit for an S6-B including all sheeting, strip sects, spars, aircraft ply bulkheads etc etc. 30% size 108" wingspan. Cut by Kitcutters in the US from Pepino plans.Enlarged plans also included. For sale due to error by Kitcutters, i wanted a 33% ie 1/3rd scale. Floats are also included, built up construction as it was to use off water. Kit is in France (thats where i live) but can deliver to the UK on my next visit. Pics can be taken but not straight away as im working in St Tropez!!

Amazing! after nine posts in this topic, stil no feedback on the Makay 75!
Someone must have a word to say, good or bad, but good would be better.

Ken . . I had a mackay 75 for a while fitted to an airworld mustang. Cant honestly say it was the best engine in the world (I'm a biased 3w fan) but it was a powerful beast. It was ported similar to early zdz engines for high revs - resulting in a lumpy, uneven tickover, and also poor transition to mid range. Also, I found the hall effect pick-up in the back of the crankcase a poor design - particulaly if someone uses a starter on the prop. the crankshaft is pushed back causing the chip to either fail or become dislodged. Leaks around the seal of this pick-up fail often, this leads to air ingress, which then makes the engine run lean and hot ! quick cure is to use heatproof silicon (used on ovendoor glass) to refix the unit. However, for long - low runs over the enemy on full power, its a good-'en . . hope that helps Ken
