... so 5 years later - and several thousand hours of Pete's life - we finally completed the Connie's 12 certification flights at Border Gliding Club today, a beautiful, expansive site but less than ideal, blustery conditions.

All 220lb of the beast got chucked round like a trainer but, thankfully, was landed safely.

See you at that event somewhere in Yorkshire, week after next...??

Totally agree Alan, but the Fokker 70 and the new look VC10 are giving the Connie a run for her money. :D
Overall the LMA have some very skillful members who year after year keep producing beautiful models of all eras.

Sir, a beautiful model! Watching the film, I was wondering how you handled making the nose-gear so it remains extended forwards in the airflow in flight. It looks as if there's a tremendous moment-arm to any rearwards force applied to the fairing that is ahead of the nose-leg. How did you get around that?

Timothy - the original U/C was pneumatic driven and we indeed had problems on the original test flights as the noseleg would not lock down due to the airflow (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=y ... pp=desktop).

For this reason - and also the fact that the original mains units were not strong enough - Peter totally rebuilt them as electric screwjacks which solved the problem.
