The angle grinder is a precision tool, in the right hands is capable of accuracy to .002 inches ( 2 thou ), that's roughly 1/2 the thickness of a hair from you head !

Rob could always file it for you, filing cast iron, yes, best of luck with that!

Why would I want to steal anybody else's fun? Perfectly possible to file cast iron, just crack on and get your back into it. Machine tools make things like this a lot quicker and easier, but hand tools can do just the same job, just slower and harder work.

I think it was Frank Whittle's autobiography that gave a good description of what RAF apprentices had to be able to do with a file in the 1930's

And as an apprentice RNZAF mechanic in 1980, we made a machine vise by filing all components from block steel. Side H frames, front and rearclamping plates etc.
Cant remember the accuracy but it was to thou. Taught us the use of all the different types of files, plus the differing techniques and tricks, plus the use of a "mike".

Same here, I earned the callouses on my hands, but Richard doesn’t deserve them, cast iron is a bitch to file, this is my job, I know what I am on about, I wouldn’t seek to advice others on their work,

Oh the days of hand tools....my apprenticeship was as a joiner and I spent many hours ripping 6x2 planks down to 2x2 by hand. Planing oak doors with a standard Stanley plane etc and then being dragged off to help unload a lorry full of 1 cwt bags of cement...I started using power tools in the 80s and was nicknamed 'the electric joiner'..now its vanfulls of planers, routers, drills etc. Good riddance to all that nonsense, apart from college I have never actually used a dovetail joint! Lucky lads nowadays, an SDS drill can do in seconds what we spent hours with Rawlplug tools. Who said the old days were 'good'?

What is this locking handles purpose? We only used the gear that came with the Dixon toolpost?

the locking handle is to replace the original tool post handle that sits to low and does not clear the QCTH, at present i an have to lock the tool post with a nut and its a pain to quick release

Glow plug plug box key is the same size as the tool posts,
