Re: Sky-120 by Tony Nijhuis
Hope this is not a dumb question, the recommended engine for the Sky-120 is the Zenoah 38cc, the Zenoah G380PU 38cc Rear Exhaust Aero Engine, are these 2 both the same or are they slightly different.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

The same.
I've had three z38's and a z45. Rock solid engines, and will turn large props with ease.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
Many thanks, what prop would you use for the Sky-120 / Zenoah G380PU 38cc Rear Exhaust Aero Engine.
Cheers

Re: Sky-120 by Tony Nijhuis
Geoff, I ran 20*8 for the first few tanks, and a 22*8 on my fokker dvii.
If you're getting back into flying after a bit of a lay off I'd keep to a low pitch as initial acceleration is better, and for a plane like the sky 120 you're not looking for speed.
The original silencer is not much good as it vents through slots on the rear face. I silver soldered them closed, and silver soldered two pipe outlets on instead. There are after market "pitts style" exhausts available from most of the model engine suppliers that do a better job!
Cheers

Geoff,
Correction, looking at my notes I started with 18*8, and after a few tanks went up to 20*8. I got mixed up with the props I used on the z45.
Cheers

Re: Sky-120 by Tony Nijhuis
Been using ZG38s since 1991 and always have one in my collection. Great engine, once primed usually starts within 2 flicks, never had one miss a beat ever !!
Oh yes and we know the silencer needs to be silver soldered together after removing the plate inside and also solder the slots up on it also.
Even better, make one of Sid kings designs and make it sound like a Rolls Royce !!
Enjoy!!

Hi Steve,
Will take your advive and use what you have done, where is the best place to buy props of this size, wooden or any other type of material.
Cheers

Re: Sky-120 by Tony Nijhuis
You can do it yourself. First of all with the silencer apart,
Gently flatten the slots with a hammer. Clean the flattened slots and the edges where the silencer fits together with steel wool. Now you will need a butane torch , some borax powder to make a flux, and a silver soldering rod ( low melting point) about 2 mm thick. Place the assembly together on a firebrick, brush the flux on and heT it up holding the rod close to it. The correct heat the solder will melt and capillary(run) into the joint and seal it. I’m sure you must know a modeller etc who would help you also. Cleanliness is the key !! If it’s not clean it won’t solder !!

Also remember you have to then drill the soldered exhaust box and fit 2 outlet pipes to it.

I second that, Prop Guy only sells quality goods. He also sells protective sleeves for props. I have recently bought four large ww1 for a large electric that I'm building, and all are perfectly balanced.

Picked up the Sky-120 kit from Slec this morning, they could not have been more helpful, had time to look around the factory, and have never seen so much balsa wood, yes it's a big box.
Building board is almost finished, 24" x 78" more than big enough at the moment, slowly getting all the building tools, glues etc, hopefully start building in a few days time and start a build thread

Can I also recommend Fighter Aces, and Kings Lynn for props as they do 20x8 Menz props which I find are great at a good price.
