DENIS[CLAUDE]SMITH RIP

Postby DAVE JOHNSON » September 25th, 2018, 5:06 pm

Another long time LMA member has passed away---I went to visit Claude in Hospital last week for his 93rd Birthday---but sadly he has now passed away.
Claude will be remembered for his Chairmanship of the CATTON group till it moved away from the site last year, and also for running the much missed Garden Parties at the site.He was still attending all the shows up to being ill with his unusual Dart Pup aircraft.

Condolences to Mike his son

A great guy, will be sadly missed, always tried to do the impossible with the Catton Group, quite often he achieved it. I hope his unusual models will continue to be part of the LMA scene.

Our heart felt sympathies are with you Mike.

Make a good landing Claude,
Harold & Pauline.

Sad to hear of Claude's passing. He was a true gent. I had many an interesting chat with him whilst a member at Catton. Another fine LMA member lost and WW2 veteran.

As everyone else has said, Claude was a lovely chap, known for building some unusual types of aircraft to a very high standard, very interesting to spend an evening talking with him about his earlier days including being in the army and flying full size aircraft as well as models. A true gent that will be missed at our nightly bbqs at the shows.
Fly high Claude, fly high my friend.

Only really met Claude when I use to go to the Catton Garden Party and LMA Shows he was a lovely man and always had time to have a chat with you. What an incredible life he had, and at the age of 93, he said to me every time I seen hin he has had a good innings. However how he never got done for speeding is beyond me he was a maniac when he was driving

God bless you Claude, rest in peace my friend.
