Professional ignition switch from Tx for petrol engines

Postby Dave Hayfield » March 29th, 2020, 2:11 pm

Whilst you are sitting in your workshop looking at that model that you are not allowed to fly why not fit a very useful safety addition. Our remote ignition switch operated from a spare channel will allow you to stop your petrol engine after a flight instantly without having to wait for the low throttle setting to stop the prop. The advantages of this system give you the means of stopping the engine if, for instance your throttle linkage fails which is not exactly unknown, and will also stop the engine if the Rx loses battery power (the pre-set failsafe which is mandatory to set up on certain models will not work if Rx battery volts disappear) this one will.
The unit will function on magneto or battery ignition engines, it has a bright flashing LED to warn ignition live and is very simple to install. They are available on ebay as 'Tx operated ignition switches for model petrol engines' and both magneto and battery ignition units are listed separately so select type required. Power requirements are negligible so no battery upgrade is required.
Also listed are failsafe units which will stop both magneto and battery ignition systems if Rx volts disappear, listed as 'Model petrol engine failsafe units'
Installing one of these units will make our hobby just a little bit safer which can't be a bad thing!

i purchased a pair of Dave's Tx operated ignition switches for my Grumman Albatross as I wanted a reliable of killing both motors as I approached the dock when flying off water. I have to say they do everything Dave says they do, they are small and lightweight and easy to fit.
The bonus of killing the engines if you lose battery voltage is another good feature but I hope I never have to try it for real !

Pleased to hear that John, and your installation in the Albatros really put the units to task because of the existing wiring set up in the model. Can't get better extreme testing than that !
