Stu sorry to hear that.
You have a point with the Nats , I am never ceased to be amazed at the weather that coincides with bank holiday weekend and the Nationals.
I have been going for 16 years and although we have had some good flying over the years, we have never sat down and thought 'God its so hot and calm'.
Doubtless others will remind me of the hot ones, but it cant' be more than one in that time.
Its always hammering at 45 degrees or worse on the cross wind.
I was sat on the grass on Friday evening waiting for the TX hut to openwith it fairly mild and blue skies .
I drove home early on Monday when in previous years we would of been flying, in near perfect conditions.
Everything else in between was pure ****.
Cold , gale force and sub tropical showers.
We did our best, in fact i was flying in pouring rain at one point in an attempt to believe that the weekend was still viable.
Then it was all cancelled on Sunday as we braced ourselves against 30mph gusts.
What really hurts, is the time preparing by us all and working up to the Nationals showline, which was conceived as an invitational when it first started.
Unfortunately for one reason or the other it has turned into an average club meet.
The Monday was sold off to IMAC under the pretext that not many turned up so 'lets let it go' rather than take positive stance and build on it and make it better.
It used to be something special and draw a big crowd, with guest flyers and big feature models and teams.
The die hards are still doing their best, organizing and flying, but it needs a serious overhaul, new thinking with variety, to bring it back to how it was born as a showline akin to fullsize, to show off the best in scale displays.
The disapointment is massive, despite all the effort that goes into creating these things, there is just no accounting the timing of atrocious weather.
TOPGUN should also feature as just a part of the overall flying with prizes dished out on the Monday, if it kills off attenance then it needs to be a completely seperate event and organized like the one in the States which is so well respected.
We all want the Monday back, or I am entering IMAC with a Spitfire next year.
This is the National Championships, just think about that title for a moment, every aspect, or category should be the best it can be, and attract the best in organisation and display, despite the weather conditions.
