Toni Clark Tiger Moth

Postby Alan Alldritt » October 4th, 2010, 10:35 am

Hi - Does anyone out there own a Toni Clark Tiger Moth (2700mm W/S) and fitted with the option Zenoah 38/reduction gear engine?
As the scale noise is at least important as the aeroplane (to me at least) would the same airframe be better suited to the OS il300 (or similar semi - scale Gypsy Major engine)?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated as this will be my first foray into large scale models.
Many thanks and in anticipation,

Alan Allldritt

Hi Alan, I'd imagine the Zenoah and belt reduction would sound much better in the TC Tiger since it would be flying at well under half throttle, whereas I bet the OS would need to be at full tilt all of the time (and still might not be enough) and would therefore sound too revvy and perhaps not even be that good for the longevity of the motor itself. The OS would only swing a smallish prop too, whereas the Zenoah would swing a scale prop at very low rpm.

Just a thought, Ian.

Or you could go electric with a sound generator if the sound and prop size is utmost in your ambitions?

I am building the same Size Tiger but my one is from a plan, though I am going to use the Toni Clark cowl. I have a geared 38 that I will use in it. It is worth it just for the sound. If you listen the the 1/3rd scale ww1 models using theses set ups you would be convinced.
