The 4 piece tail wheel doors are to be mechanically driven by the retracting tail wheel.

Here they are part way through sorting the linkages out.

After a lot of trial, fit, adjust........the mechanical tail wheel doors on the Corsair are all done & working a treat. As the wheel retracts the final 1/2" or so, it hits a spring loaded hinged plate which is connected to the door bell cranks which drag the doors shut. As the plate is spring loaded, as the wheel extends and releases it's upward pressure on the plate, the doors spring open and are held open by spring tension.

The wings are also painted (Warbirdcolors US Sea Blue) and markings are on. Paint masks for Flightline Graphics.

Cockpit interior next.......

Corsair cockpit interior......plenty of artistic licence here as all I have is a handful of photos/artists impressions. The left side of the interior is pretty much complete & ready for paint. The side panel and console is from styrene faced 1/16" balsa, all the bits & pieces have been made from a combination of chemiwood, styrene sheet & tube, litho etc........

Nothing is finally bonded together here.......it's just resting together with a few dots of double sided tape here and there. The right hand side isn't far behind...............

Cracking models Gromit.
Superb. The 262 is my second fave aircraft of all time.
How good it is to see sorted, modern examples of this incredible machine.
I had three in succession in the 1980s. Very successful hand launch single, followed by two twins with .40 glows.
As there was no propwash over the tail, flight control at low ish speed was akin to balancing a ping pong ball on a football.
Oh happy days.

Cockpit interior on the Corsair now complete.....just the canopy to fix in place and the fuz is ready for it's blue. As can be seen, the cockpit was built section by section & complete finished panels were bonded in section by section.......far easier this way than trying to work bit by bit through a small opening.

Paintwork complete.........time to start dirtying up a bit with a light 'wash'.......looks very bold here but it will dull down nicely with the application of the final satin clear coat.

Very slow progress on the Boston, but it is still moving. Just about ready for glassing and final finishing.....Will it get done over the winter?

2 years in the building and its reached the almost-ready-to-fly stage.
I don't know how ARTF manufacturers do it for the money, my worth seems to be about £0.05p per hour!
